Taxi Transfers To and From Basel Airport

It very much depends on which sector one travels from Basel Airport how much the fare is going to be, as fares charged by Basel Airport taxis depend on whether passengers travel to or from the Swiss or the French sector of the terminal building.

Base Airport taxis will charge ca. EUR 45.00 to EUR 50.00 to travel to Mulhouse from the French part of the airport during the day and around EUR 60.00 at night. Basel Airport taxis to Freiburg will take one hour at a fare of ca. EUR 110.00 from the French sector.

Taking a taxi from the airport to Mulhouse from the Swiss sector will be charged at a fare of ca. CHF 40.00 to CHF 50.00 and a taxi to Freiburg will cost around CHF 320.00 from the Swiss part of the airport.

In Basel and other Swiss cities passengers will find taxi ranks are located just outside the main train stations and also some of the major hotels. At the airport the taxi ranks are situated just outside the arrivals zones.

All taxis display their official permits and the companies names and contact details are clearly displayed on the sides of the vehicle. Taxi cars also have a TAXI sign on the roof for easy identification.

Basel is divided by the Rhine River, which snakes its way past the historic Grossbasel, where the medieval architecture is one of the main tourist attractions, and Kleinbasel on the northern Rhine embankment, where most of the bars, clubs and restaurants can be found. Despite the Swiss people's reputation for being rather reserved, they do like to party and the city's club scene is vibrant and colourful, offering something for everybody.

Many of the best hotels and guesthouses are located in the old part of the city, but a taxi journey doesn't cost that much and it is better to travel by taxi than getting caught drink-driving!

Although car hire is easily arranged at the airport and is available at competitive prices, not everybody enjoys driving abroad.

It is easy to get around on foot or by tram within the city center of Basel. As one of the most splendid examples of Romanesque and Gothic style architecture and one of Basel's most popular tourist attractions, the monumental Cathedral (Münster) is overlooks the Rhine River and neighbouring Kleinbasel on the opposite side. The foundation stones for the Cathedral were laid as far back as 1019, but the building as it stands today wasn't completed until 1500.

Basel tourist attractions include more than 20 museums and art collections, of which the Kunstmuseum Basel (Art Museum Basel) is one of the most popular. It is home to 19th and 20th century works of art by influential artists like Picasso, but the museum also houses a large collection of medieval and renaissance art. Some of the highlights include paintings by Hans Holbein and Hans Baldung Grien.
